How to Peel a Pineapple

Ever wonder how the chefs or the experts carved their pineapple. How they made it so aesthetically appealing to the eyes.
Well, today we are going to take a little trip around my local street market and learn from the pineapple expert himself.
Now, this guy has over 10,000 hours of peeling pineapple experience under his belt. Who can better show us than this guy, right?
Take a look at the video I made above of this talented Philippino guy in action.
And when you are done watching –challenge yourself. Pick up a pineapple at your local supermarket.
Peel an award winning pineapple yourself!
Be sure to leave me a comment about your pineapple peeling experience.

Mmm…pineapple! Those are great tips! Thx Faey!
Hi Lisa,
Thank you for stopping by. =)
You are most welcome.
Glad you found these tips helpful.
Have you attempted your ‘professional’
pineapple peeling yet?
My Goodness, that was fun to watch! The fellow in the market so expertly cuts that pineapple. What a good idea to trim off the pointed leaves and turn the green top into a handle. I was amazed at how shallow his cuts were to remove the peel and his removal of the sockets was fascinating. The end result before he sliced it up to eat in the yellow plastic sack was so pretty. It’s usually such a messy job to cut up a fresh pineapple. I look forward to trying his method soon.
Thanks for posting your videos.
P.S. Why do pineapples (more than any other fruit) attract fruit flies? It seems that you purchase them along with the whole fruit from the store.
Thanks for watching the video. Glad you find it fascinating.
I don’t know if you notice this already. But if you look closely, he actually uses two different pairs of knife. I thought it was interesting he had a special curving knife just for removing the sockets. But any sharp knife will do.
As for your question, this is the closest answer I found on ehow.com’s article “How Does Fruit Attract Fruit Flies?” by April Sanders, “Fruit flies eat yeast, which is a microbe that eats fruit and causes it to ferment and rot. This is why fruit flies will only show up when your fruit starts to go soft.”
My guess is pineapples are just too sweet. And its strong scent attracts the fruit flies. =)
